Software Rendering Web Content to Users
A web browser is an application that provides a platform for users to access, interpret, and interact with content on the internet. When a user enters a URL into a browser or clicks a hyperlink, the web browser requests and receives information from a web server, then processes this information formatted using technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and finally displays it in a graphical format. Examples of well-known browsers include Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Opera – and each of these has unique features and optimisations for performance.
Modern web browsers do much more than just display web pages. They assist in providing security by using sandboxing and permission-based security; they can support add-ons and development tools and provide cross-device and cross-platform compatibility. In addition, web browsers help to enforce modern web standards, so website functionality will be the same no matter what device or operating system they are being viewed or interacted with on.
From a user's perspective, the overall experience of using the web is determined by many things and is greatly affected by how quickly, reliably, securely, and easily a web browser processes content. Web developers and website owners are ultimately responsible for testing their products to provide the same user experience across many different web browsers.
