The Role of UX in High-Quality Digital Products

User Experience (UX) encompasses an individual’s overall experience while using a piece of digital hardware (for example, a computer) or software (for example, a website). Unlike visual design, which only looks at the aesthetics of a user’s interaction with the digital product, UX looks at how successfully a digital product meets the needs of its users with as little effort required by the user.

Typically, a good UX strategy is built on actual data obtained through user research, user behaviour, accessibility guidelines, and testing through multiple iterations of the product, and it incorporates the actual needs of the users rather than assumptions.

UX designers are responsible for designing the overall user flow of the product, evaluating the use of the product through the process of usability testing, and creating the wireframe and prototype designs. UX designers work closely with the product manager and the developer to refine user workflows.

A good UX ultimately results in less cognitive load on the user, fewer user errors and, therefore, greater user satisfaction and retention, and can also directly impact business objectives, including improved conversion rates, increased user engagement, and decreased support costs.

Modern UX practices are focused on creating an inclusive environment where users with a variety of abilities, devices, and circumstances can interact with the product as expected and intended. The user experience is a continually evolving process. As user expectations change, digital products must evolve in order to remain usable and competitive.
