Using Scale in Design

Scale refers to the relative size of one element compared to another. Changing scale creates visual hierarchy, adding drama and guiding the viewer's eye.

Scale is just the size of elements relative to one another. It’s the quickest way to tell the user what matters. Humans are programmed to notice big things—they are either threats or opportunities.

If the headline, the image, and the body text are all roughly the same size, the design feels flat and boring. The user won't know where to look. By making the headline massive and the copyright text tiny, we instantly create hierarchy. We use scale to create drama and emphasis.
