Layout Grids Explained
grid is an invisible framework of vertical and horizontal lines. It helps align elements, ensuring consistency, structure, and organization in a design.
The grid is the invisible skeleton holding the design together. It’s a system of columns and gutters that we use to structure content. You don't see the lines, but you feel the order they create.
In web design, we usually use a 12-column grid. This is flexible—we can split the screen into halves, thirds, or quarters easily. Using a grid removes the guesswork. Instead of asking, "Where should this photo go?", we snap it to the grid. This creates a rhythm across the site. If a site feels chaotic, it’s usually because they ignored the grid.
