Project Manager Responsibilities in IT Delivery
A project manager is a person who works within the information technology (IT) industry to design, develop and produce technology-based products. The project manager serves as a liaison between stakeholders, development teams, and business goals. Their main responsibilities include establishing a project's scope, developing a timeline, estimating costs, and determining areas of risk.
When a project is in the implementation phase, the project manager will initiate the use of all required resources, organise the schedule, monitor the schedule, and make sure that the development team has all of the required software or hardware so they can continue to be productive. In addition, the project manager will establish and maintain lines of communication with stakeholders, resolve any conflicts that arise, and adjust timelines when necessary.
The project manager also has the responsibility of establishing quality assurance, mitigating risk, and keeping documentation regarding any decisions made regarding the project. An effective project manager understands both the technical and business contexts of a project and is thus able to provide informed decisions that will ultimately lead to the success of the project. As project managers facilitate the successful completion of projects ranging from software applications to network upgrades to systems integration, they ensure that the end products of projects are delivered on time and in accordance with the agreed-upon requirements. Project managers lead and motivate their teams to remain organised and focused and adaptable throughout the entirety of a project.
