IaaS: Virtualized Computing Infrastructure

IaaS lets you rent the raw building blocks of IT—servers, storage, and networking—over the internet, avoiding the heavy cost of buying physical hardware.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is basically the foundation of the modern cloud. Back in the day, launching a product meant buying physical racks, renting data center space, and hiring guys to wire it all up. It was expensive and slow. IaaS changed the game by letting you "rent" that gear from giants like Amazon or Microsoft with a couple of clicks.

Think of IaaS like leasing a car versus building one from scratch. You get the vehicle (the computing power), but you still have to drive it (install the OS and apps). It gives you total control over the resources. You can rent a supercomputer for an hour to crunch data and then kill it, paying only for that hour.
